Flagler County:

Who we serve:

  • Flagler County is one of the fastest growing counties in the U.S. It has been first in the nation for the rate of growth in housing units for two years in a row. Its population is projected to grow from 78,216 in 2005 to almost double that – 150,000 – in 2020.
  • Total Flagler population in need of treatment services is between 5,000 and 8,000 at any point in time. From this, we can project that chronic users, meeting criteria for residential treatment, are at least 10% of this number, or 500-800 individuals.
  • SMC currently operates the only eight residential substance abuse treatment beds and eight detox beds in Flagler County, and serves 75 patients per year. (A new 50 bed residential center would serve an additional 300 patients per year.)

IMPACT OF SUCCESS

  • Research proves that substance abuse treatment programs achieve positive effects on personal and community health, criminal behavior and all its related costs, family function and stability, employment, mental health, and reductions in hospitalization and other health care services.
  • For every $1 invested in addiction treatment, there is an average $7 return in economic benefits to the state.
  • With the prevalence of substance abuse increasing and continued population growth expected in our service area, it is imperative that we expand our services with the construction of a new residential treatment facility in Flagler County. It’s a winning proposition whose time has come.
